Backyard Pond Rebuild

By Gregg Sawyer

March 16, 2021

This pond was originally installed (Bar X, Subdivision - Cheyenne, WY) by us back in 2002, just a few years after we got started in the pond business.  After twelve years of loving their pond, the homeowners wanted an upgrade.  Overgrown plants and upkeep were becoming more of a problem every summer.  So, an improved filtration system was on top of the list.

Not to mention, we were going to make it bigger and better!

Backyard Pond & Waterfall Material List:
  1. (2) Pond Pump TT9000 gph
  2. Pond Liner: 30 x 60 45ml EPDM pond liner
  3. Flex PVC: 100' of PVC Flex Pipe
  4. Pond Underlayment: 30 x 60 Geotextile Underlayment
  5. Pump Vault: Aquascape Pondless Waterfall Vault
  6. Pond Skimmer: (1000 Aquascape Series Pond Skimmer)
  7. (2) Waterfall Spillways: Aquascape Waterfall Spillway
  8. Granite Boulders: 50 ton
  9. Cobble: 15 ton
  10. 1" Gravel: 15 ton
  11. 3 pallets of Arizona Buff Flagstone & tread steppers

Removing all of the rock and sludge from the old pond.  The gazebo, which we also built back in 2002, will only be getting a mild modification that will allow for better viewing of the koi.

The pond is filled in with new, fresh topsoil.  Primarily so we could re-shape the pond, but also for access to construct the new bigger and higher main waterfall.

Below: A good height comparison of the main waterfall drop.  We had to start building the waterfall first, since there would not be any access once the pond was built.
